Before you begin
The five emails
Every Radar email comes from Bilby <noreply@bilby.ai>. Most checks find nothing, so most days you hear nothing.
| Subject | When it comes | |
|---|---|---|
| Update | The news itself, as a headline | A check found something that changes the picture |
| Nothing new | Nothing new on the topic's name | After a check that found nothing, only if you asked to hear about those |
| While you were away | While you were away: 2 updates from your research | Updates from topics Bilby suggested, once you've been away for a week |
| Ending soon | Still want updates on the topic's name? | A week before one of your topics ends |
| Paused | Radar is paused until the date your usage resets | Once, when your usage runs out |
Step 1: Read an update
An update starts with what happened. If the topic is scored, the score comes next, with its traffic light and Bilby's reason. Then the topic, the date of the last check and a link to the chat, followed by the update itself.

When the score moves into another colour, the subject leads with the new one, as in "Now red:" here. Continue in Bilby opens the chat, where the same update is waiting and you can ask about it.
Step 2: Keep a topic that's ending
A week before one of your topics ends, Radar asks "Still want updates on" the topic. The email says how many updates it has sent and the latest one. Keep for 90 more days keeps it going with one click, and you don't need to sign in. If you do nothing, Bilby stops checking on the end date. You can put the topic back on Radar from its chat at any time.
Step 3: Stop what you don't want
The foot of every Radar email has links that work without signing in. Each opens a page that asks you to confirm.
| Link | What it does |
|---|---|
| Stop this topic | Takes that topic off your Radar. Its updates so far stay in the chat |
| Stop all Radar emails | Turns Radar emails off. Your topics keep running, and updates still appear in Bilby |
| Manage Radar | Opens the Radar page in Bilby |
| Stop suggesting topics to me | On "While you were away" only. Bilby stops suggesting topics and stops the ones it suggested |
Note
To stop the "Nothing new" emails for a topic, open its ⋯ menu on the Radar page and choose Only tell me when something changes. See Change or stop a topic.
When your usage runs out
Radar checks count toward your usage. When it runs out, every topic pauses, and Radar sends one email: "Radar is paused until" the date your usage resets. Checks restart on their own on that date. Nothing is lost: the first check after the pause covers everything published while it was paused.
While the pause lasts, the Radar page says so at the top. Settings › Radar shows how much of this month's usage Radar has used.
Suggested topics and "While you were away"
Bilby can suggest up to three topics from your recent chats about things still unfolding, such as a pending rule or an election. It checks them like your own, and their updates appear in Bilby straight away. It emails about them only in one "While you were away" email, after a week without a visit to Bilby, with up to five updates. To turn suggestions off, open Settings › Radar and switch off Let Bilby suggest topics.
Every email, in one place
On the Radar page, the Emails tab lists every email Radar sent you, or would have sent, newest first. Open one to read it exactly as it arrived, as Email or as Text. An email that wasn't sent says why, such as Not sent · Radar emails are off or Not sent · your email isn't verified.
Tip
To see the emails for one topic only, open its ⋯ menu on the Radar page and choose Emails. Show all emails brings the rest back.
