Before you begin
Where sources come from
Bilby searches before it writes, and every source it finds is kept with the chat. A chip after a point names the source behind it, so you can check the point against the original.
Step 1: Find the chip
After a sentence or a paragraph, a small grey chip names its source, such as pdp.gov.my. A number such as +1 means more than one source backs the same point. When the source is a long document, the chip can name the page, such as (p. 4).
A data breach has to be reported to the regulator. pdp.gov.my +1 Many companies must also name a data protection officer. pdp.gov.my
1Guideline on data breach notification
pdp.gov.my
Read web source…a data controller shall, as soon as practicable, notify the Commissioner of the personal data breach…
Step 2: Point at it to read the passage
Point at the chip. A card opens with the source's title, its address, and the passage Bilby used. When several sources back the point, the arrows at the top of the card move between them.
To open the original, press Read web source for a web page, or View document for a document. A PDF from your organization's documents opens at the page Bilby cited.
Note
Links in the answer's own text ask first: "Open external link?" Press Open link to go on, or Copy link to keep the address.
Step 3: See every source in the chat
Press the folder button at the top right of the chat, then Sources. The tab lists every source the chat found: Cited sources first, then Uncited sources, which Bilby found but didn't use, folded under their count.
A web source opens its page in a new tab. Any other source opens in the tab itself, with "Excerpts retrieved from this document": the parts Bilby read. Back to sources returns to the list.
Each source says where it came from:
| It says | Where the source came from |
|---|---|
| A web address, such as pdp.gov.my | A web page |
| Bilby Search | Bilby's own government and private sources |
| Library | Your organization's own documents |
| Vault files | The Files of the vault this chat is in |
| Attachment | A file attached to this chat |
Step 4: Check Bilby's steps
The line above the answer, such as "Worked for 1 minute 4 seconds.", opens every step Bilby took. The searches list what they found, so you can see what Bilby read before it wrote.
Tip
A source doesn't say what the answer claims? Rate the answer Bad answer with Weak sources or Wrong or made up. See Rate an answer. To choose where Bilby looks, see The data Bilby reads.
Try it in Bilby
Ask for an answer with official sources, then check them.
When the answer arrives, point at a chip, then open the Sources tab.
