Ask Bilby

Rate an answer

Tell Bilby whether an answer was good or bad with a thumbs up or down, and say why in a click or two.

Before you begin

A finished answer in a chat you can write in. If you can only read a chat, such as one in a vault where you're a Viewer, you can't rate its answers. Answers in an Incognito chat can't be rated either.

What a rating does

One click saves your rating. Reasons and a comment are optional, but they're what make a rating useful.

Rating an answer. Numbers match the steps on this page.

Step 1: Press thumbs up or thumbs down

Under the answer, next to Copy, press Good answer (thumbs up) or Bad answer (thumbs down). The thumb fills in, and your rating is saved.

Step 2: Say why, if you like

A card opens under the answer: "What went wrong? (optional)" or "What was good? (optional)". Press any reasons that fit; press one again to take it off. To say more, press Add a comment. Then press Send. The card changes to "Thanks for the feedback."

Got me wrongKnew my context

Got me wrong and Knew my context appear only when the answer used what Bilby remembers about you.

The × closes the card without sending reasons, and so does sending your next message. Your thumb is saved either way.

Step 3: Change your mind

Press the other thumb at any time. You can change a rating, but not remove it. Pressing your thumb again opens its card, to add or change your reasons.

Who sees your rating

  • Only you, in the chat. In a shared vault, everyone who can write rates for themselves, and nobody sees anyone else's rating.
  • The Bilby team, who use ratings, with the answer they're about, to find what to improve.

What Bilby learns from it

When you give a reason, Bilby may remember it for your next answers. Too long can teach it that you like shorter answers. Got me wrong tells it that something it remembered about you is wrong: when your comment says what's right, it corrects it; otherwise it forgets it. Reasons about one answer's facts or sources, such as Out of date, stay with that answer. What Bilby learns stays in your own memory; see Questions people ask.

Note

Radar updates aren't rated. They ask "Worth sending?" instead. See Follow a topic with Radar.
