Build on Bilby
Call Bilby from your own code, connect your AI tools to it, and let any AI tool read this Help Center.

This section is for people who write code or set up AI tools: an engineer automating a daily question, an analyst wiring Bilby into a notebook, or a team adding Bilby to an assistant they already use. Everything here acts as you, with the access you already have in Bilby. Nothing gives a program more than you could do yourself.
What you can do
| You want to | Use | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Ask Bilby from a script and read the answer as it streams | The REST API, with a personal API key | Your first API call |
| Let an AI tool such as Claude Code or Cursor ask Bilby | Bilby's MCP server | The MCP servers |
| Let an AI tool look things up in this Help Center | The Help Center's public MCP server | The MCP servers |
| Make, scope and revoke keys | Settings › API keys | API keys |
How it fits together
What the API covers
The REST API at https://pulse.bilby.ai/api/v1 is the same Bilby you use in the browser, with the same
agents, sources and allowance:
- List the organizations a key can reach:
GET /workspaces. - Start a chat with a question, follow up, and stream the answer:
/conversations. - Read a chat's messages, stop a running answer, or delete a chat.
- Upload files to ask about, and download the files Bilby made:
/attachments,/artifacts.
Each organization is called a workspace in the API, and its id is workspaceId. Chats you start
through the API appear in Bilby like any other chat, and count toward your usage in the same way.
Note
The API can't create vault chats or change vaults, organizations or settings. Do those in Bilby.
Good to know
- Keys belong to people. A key acts as the person who made it, in the organizations it's scoped to, with that person's permissions. If they leave an organization, the key stops working there.
- Usage is per person. Every answer counts toward the key owner's allowance. When it runs out,
the API answers
402until it resets. - Answers take time. A question returns at once with a stream to follow. Bilby may search and read for a minute or more before it writes.
- Every guide is Markdown too. Add
.mdto any Help Center address.https://docs.bilby.ai/llms.txtlists every guide.
Try it in Bilby
Make your first API key in Settings.
You'll need to be signed in. The next two guides walk through making the key and your first call.
