The Predictions Machine

Ask what could happen next in a country or a sector, and get Bilby's predictions with the evidence behind each one.

Before you begin

Your organization has the Predictions Machine. If it does, the home page has a Predictions box.
Optional: decide the countries and the subjects you care about. Both are optional, and you can pick several of each.

How it works

The Predictions Machine reads current news and Bilby's data, then says what could happen next and the evidence behind each forecast. You set its scope with countries and categories, then ask your question in your own words.

Choosing countries for the Predictions Machine, then the question it adds them to. Numbers match the steps on this page.

Step 1: Set it up

Go to the home page and scroll down to Explore what's available in Bilby. Choose Predictions. Under Scenarios, the Predictions Machine card says "Explore what could happen next across countries and categories". Press Set up prediction.

You can also type @ in the question box and pick Predictions Machine.

Step 2: Choose countries and categories

The Predictions Machine joins your question, with two halves: Countries and Categories. Press either one to open its list.

  • Popular has the most-used choices. All countries has the rest.
  • Search or type your own finds a choice, or adds your own, such as "ASEAN" or "AI policy".
  • You can pick up to 20 in each list. Clear empties a list.

Categories are grouped: policy and regulatory signals, diplomatic and strategic signals, trade and investment, and economic sectors such as Energy or Technology. Leave a list empty and it reads Any country or Any category: Bilby then takes the scope from your question.

Step 3: Ask your question and send it

Close the list, type what you want to know, and send:

What could happen next with data centre investment rules over the next six months?

Bilby researches, then answers with its predictions. Each says what Bilby expects and roughly when, and why, with the sources behind it.

Step 4: Follow a prediction

To hear whether one comes true, ask in the same chat: "Let me know if this comes true." Bilby puts it on Radar, scored as the chance it comes true, and on the date the prediction names it tells you either way. See Radar scores.

Keep asking in the same chat too: "Which of these is most likely?", "What would change your mind?", "Draw this as a timeline".

Note

A prediction is Bilby's judgement, not a fact. Read the reasoning and open the sources before you rely on it.

Tip

If you don't see Predictions on the home page, your organization doesn't have the Predictions Machine. Ask an owner or admin of your organization.

Try it in Bilby

Open Predictions and press Set up prediction.
